Mahjong Soul

A free-to-play riichi mahjong game known for its elaborate anime-style player avatars, online multiplayer (with a dedicated ranking system), and customizable rulesets.

Overview

Mahjong Soul (also known as MahjongSoul or Majsoul, known in Japan as Jantama, and known in China as Què Hún Májiàng) is a free-to-play riichi mahjong game developed by Catfood Studio and released by Yostar (in North America and Japan) and SoulCreator (in China) for online browsers and both iOS and Android devices in 2019. The Chinese version also received a region-locked PC release via Steam on July 15, 2020.

Supporting online multiplayer (with both four-player and three-player variants), Mahjong Soul is known for its high-quality 3D graphics, customizable rules (including tournament play), an online ranking system, special events, and voiced anime-style player avatars (each with unlockable backstories, emotes, and alternate outfits).

As a free-to-play game, it uses a gacha system for unlocking additional characters, crafting items for character unlockables, and in-game cosmetics (including tile and tablecloth colors, special effects, riichi bet tokens, and music while in riichi).

The game later had crossover collaborations with multiple gambling and mahjong manga series, including characters from Saki, Kakegurui, and Akagi.
