Containment Initiative

Containment Initiative
 PC

Overview

Containment Initiative is an asymmetric co-op VR zombie shooter game developed and published by Gwyn Games, it is the first game published by Gwyn Games and has received Very Positive reviews on Steam. The game had an EA (Early Access) release in September 2016 and an official release in April 2017.

Players are able to play in 4 different modes, Multiplayer, Steam Remote Play, Single-player and Local Co-op, along with a variety of gamemodes including Scavenge, Survival and Defence. Announced in 2016, the game had simple graphics and simple gameplay, and throughout development had received major changes to the atmosphere and variety.

Gameplay

In Containment Initiative, the players objectives vary depending on which gamemode and map they have chosen.

Defence

In the Defence Gamemode, the player is tasked with defending a crashed helicopter atop a bridge, with hordes of infected and mutants running to destroy it. In the Safehouse map, the player is tasked with defending a safehouse across the street with infected trying to break in. There is a bit of pressure because of the objective that states "Safehouse/Helo takes no damage" forcing the player to really focus on their shots. This gamemode is made more difficult by adding the "Pistol Only" objective.

Scavenge

In the Scavenge Gamemode, the player has different objectives on each map, with the main one being "Collect 10 Supply Crates". In the City and the Factory, the player must kill a number of infected and collect supply crates in order to achieve the objectives. The Factory poses a challenge due to the small mutants presence and the darkness, as well as the map's size. The Checkpoint requires the player to keep a generator running for 4 minutes and to kill the Advanced Mutant, who will run off after being knocked down twice, small clues are hidden in the map to help the player figure out how to kill the Advanced Mutant. The Bunker requires the player to go through a laboratory to find a Virus Sample in order to help get closer to a cure, this map proves difficult due to Small Mutants having a huge presence in every corridor.

Survival

In the Survival Gamemode, the player has to defend their position while hordes of zombies charge at them, rising in difficulty as the game goes on, until the player chooses to extract (ending the level after 30 seconds on easy and 60 seconds on hard difficulty). In City Day, the player is tasked with killing 100 infected and surviving for 2 minutes. In City Night, the player is tasked with killing 150 zombies and surviving for 2:30 minutes. This level is more challenging than City Day due to the presence of the Advanced Mutant accompanied by the overall darkness. In Tunnels, the player is tasked with killing 10 special infected and surviving for 3 minutes, Tunnels is considered the most difficult level due to the blockades that restrict the player's LOS (Line Of Sight) and the mass infected spawns, causing the player to be overwhelmed if they stop paying attention.
