Tower of Guns

A fast-paced shooter with some rogue-like elements. It is developed mostly by Joe Mirabello, an ex-employee of 38 Studios.

Overview

Tower of Guns is a first person arena style single player shooter which also includes some rogue-like elements in the form of randomized rooms and enemy layouts, pick ups, secrets, items and game structure. In the game the player makes their way through different rooms killing enemies and turrets, dodging projectiles and defeating an end of floor boss before progressing onto the next floor.

The game was developed primarily by Terrible Posture Games the one man development team of Joe Mirabello who started the company after the closure of 38 Studios.

Gameplay

The basic gameplay loop of Tower of Guns is very simple, shoot open a door, enter a room, kill as many turrets and enemies as possible while searching for the exit door and dodging the multitude of giant projectiles being shot at you. At the offset of the game, players select one of three gameplay modes as well as a perk and weapon. As players defeat enemies blue crystals which drop as the enemy explodes serve as weapon XP to level up the player's weapon and each weapon has 5 levels in total. As players take damage however the weapon will lose XP and may even fall in level.

The player can also equip the weapon with various different mods for the gun which grant it additional abilities such as an automatic bullet tracking to enemies and a precision fire mode which increases the weapons accuracy. These mods can be either obtained by defeating the final boss of any given stage or buy purchasing the upgrade from various store pods which appear randomly throughout the game. The currency used within the game is coins which can be earned by killing enemies or found scattered throughout and in hidden locations within the game's stages.
